The purity of dogs and the permissibility of owning one as a house pet are 2 totally separate issues in Maliki fiqh.
In the Maliki madhhab the dog is considered pure, not filthy however does this mean that you may own one as a pet?

Go to the chapters on mu'amalaat (specifically trade) you find that you may only keep a dog for the purposes of protection, shepherding, and hunting as a dispensation and so owning it as a house pet would not be permissible.
When reading fiqh it is very important to understand very precisely what exactly is being spoken about and to be careful from reading understandings into a text that are not actually present.
Otherwise you will
1. Oppress others in claiming they said something they actually did not
2. Possibly act upon a misunderstanding
3. Perpetuate that misunderstanding and be a cause for people understanding and perhaps doing things wrong
