OTD 1915 Sergeant Morris Howard WILKINS City of London Yeomanry Killed in Action 21st August 1915 Buried Green Hill Cemetery, Gallipoli. Joined @rosslynpark with his brother Leo in Oct 1913.
Born Kent, lived Croydon, his @BloxhamSchool did not play rugby until 1920, but Morris was a keen footballer (seated right) and his skills would have easily transferred in the amateur era of #Rugby
In the Gallipoli campaign the Yeomanry fought on foot as infantry. On 21 Aug 1915, the dismounted cavalrymen attacked Scimitar Hill. Marching inland from Suvla across the dry bed of a salt lake, the advance was soon cut down by accurate and prolonged machine gun fire.
The British lost 5300 men on the 21st August including Morris Wilkins, who was wounded near Hill 70 and died of his wounds. #RIP
