Why you might still be waiting for your refunds from a gig/festival/show.

First of all, I want to make it VERY clear that nobody wants to be making you wait for refunds. But venues literally don’t have the money. It’s not sitting in our bank accounts gaining interest like I’ve had suggested multiple times. 2/14
Ticket income goes straight on organising the event you bought tickets for, it’s like investing in it. Events cost a LOT to put on, especially festivals who don’t have facilities standing year round. 3/14
The (very minimum) profits that are made by these events is from bars, food, and merch over the events. Meaning 2020 has seen an income of ZERO. 4/14
Unless you’re Wimbledon, you wouldn’t have taken out pandemic insurance. Hindsight is 2020 (
). So there’s no coverage for forced cancellations and postponements. 5/14

(Side note: no, we didn’t ‘choose’ to cancel the events as a lot of people like to say. There was literally no choice.)
The government have offered a big fat NOTHING to events spaces. Despite multiple calls to support an industry that brings over £4.5billion to the UK economy and supports over 200,000 jobs each year. 7/14
So instead small businesses that run events and festivals are spending day and night applying to every grant going, calling their bank twice a day, and desperately trying to find the funds for mass refunds. It’s not just your £40 ticket. It’s tens-hundreds of thousands of pounds.
And it will kill the industry if support isn’t offered. 9/14
Remember if the businesses aren’t taking the time to find those funds they will fold. Which will not only mean no more events with them, but will also mean no refund at all for you. 10/14
nstead we are spending our days being abused, having our businesses trashed on social media, and having our mental health heavily effected by emails and calls. 11/14
Of course you want your refund. We want you to have your refund. We know how tight money is for so many people right now! We don’t mind you asking what’s going on, we’ll tell you! But remember we are just people. 12/14
People who have never had to do this before. People who never want to upset our customers without whom we wouldn’t exist. 13/14
People who want this to be over as much as you. Be polite, be understanding, take the rolled over tickets if you can, and don’t vote Tory if you care about the arts.
