Waking up to this I'm angrier than last night. I really look forward to the Liberal government lowering cell phone costs by 'asking politely'.

This state is utterly captured by the telecom industry. It's unforgivable. https://twitter.com/David_Moscrop/status/1296584142990303234
Also, a pandemic when people are scared, depressed, losing their jobs, struggling to feed themselves, and forced to connect online...maybe not the best time to allow significant leaps in the cost of internet service.
Maybe it's time we revisit a robust discussion on nationalization. If the market oligopoly can't deliver good service for a reasonable price, then perhaps this public utility ought to be run as such.
Imagine caving to an industry that holds the federal government hostage by threatening to underdeveloped or inadequate rural and northern infrastructure?

That's the play, of course. Threaten to marginalize those who need a service and use that to hold the entire country hostage.
But as much of a problem as the industry is, this falls at the feet of the Liberals. Cabinet had a choice here -- and caucus still has a choice. They could fix this.

The Liberals ought to be held to account for this wretched failure to stand up for Canadians.
Oh, ps. "Total Canadian telecommunications revenues reached $53.1 billion in 2018, growing by 5.5%, which is slightly faster than the five-year average annual growth rate of 3.7%."
