You would not believe the work going on in schools at the moment to prepare for reopening. Principals, staff, BOMs doing every they can to open to pupils in the next 10 days.

But what about pupils who won’t be coming to school?
We know there will be lots of pupils who won’t be sent to school by parents on medical grounds. We’ve known this for months.

So what has been done for this cohort? What Departmental plans have been put in place?

Eh...
There have been great suggestions from educationalists of course. A National home school hub. Linking in these pupils with local Education Centres. Taking back people on secondment on an emergency basis to help do remote teaching.

I haven’t seen any real plans though.
So what will actually happen for these thousands of kids?

I don’t know.

But I strongly suspect the work will end up at the door - or the email address - of the hard-pressed class teacher, who is already preparing for the biggest culture change of their career.
The Department have had months to prepare. The Minister has been in place long enough. These kids deserve the best. The school community deserves support.

So what’s the plan?
