a quick thread on how kurt has bpd and blaine is his favorite person
to start off bpd is borderline personality disorder (i have it. a good example of a character with bpd is catra), it’s characterized by the items listed below and other less talked abt symptoms such as paranoid ideations, strange food habits, possible manic episodes etc
first let’s just start with kurts general personality. he changes, he undergoes a lot of forms depending on who he’s talking to. kurt with elliot is different than kurt with rachel. he has a shifting personality, but when he has his own viewpoints he stands strong
in them no matter how he’s acting at that moment.
to talk about general symptoms, there are many instances of his anger and his quick shifting moods. in a majority of klaine fights he goes from happy to extremely angry in a matter of seconds. he also

can go from angry to loving very fast especially with his dad. kurts paranoid ideations stem from karofsky of course, but he’s freaked out for a while everywhere in lima while being EXTREMELY stressed. his impulses tie into the tattoo and the tongue piercing, he
does things on a whim at certain times, and bpd impulses aren’t a constant it just means without a person as an impulse we have VERY poor control.
fear of abandonment in kurt is less shown than in blaine, but you can see how it still upsets him. when he realized blaine

cheated having to cut him out of his life devasted him. losing finn, the fear of losing his dad, so much of that isn’t just a fear of death it’s a fear of losing people. he pushes them away just to see how much they take, and then when the other snaps in return he
freaks out (again back to blaine cheating).
his friendships and relationships have always been unstable. rachel, mercedes, finn, his father, blaine etc etc. there has never been a constant, they’ve always been a large up and down ride with extremes and heavy downs.

a large thing with bpd as well is the fact since you have no sense of self your goals are shifting consistently, which in later seasons you see that. you see how it goes from broadway to tv even though he’s wanted to be on bway for a large portion of his life.
hyper empathy is also connected to bpd, we just have a hard time expressing it. the stuff with his dad is hyper empathy as well, and it plays into his fear and how horribly worried he is about it even after it all happened.
splitting is also a very big bpd symptom. when we go in a splitting episode usually from stress we see the world in black and white and no gray. kurt does that with blaine a lot, a quick reference to it being s5 ep 20, with the lying even though blaine was trying to
do something right.
so how does that connect to blaine being his favorite person? well, very easily. favorite persons for people with bpd aren’t just a best friend or someone you like, they are the one person you need attention from all the time. it’s someone you

can love one minute and hate the next, someone you’re critical of to an extreme, it’s a horrible feeling and it’s almost uncontrollable.
blaine is that person for kurt. everytime blaine does something wrong, kurt immediately treats him like he’s horrible and he meant to
blaine is that person for kurt. everytime blaine does something wrong, kurt immediately treats him like he’s horrible and he meant to
be a bad person. he wants attention but not too much attention. he makes blaine out to be the person he wants to see not who he is, he does without even meaning to. to the relationship in his head to the fight about blaine moving in kurts relationship with blaine is
comparably different than with others. it is so obvious that he relies on him to survive, and he needs him and it can be unhealthy, his anger can be unhealthy, but it’s something that gets better as you work on it.
again. i have bpd. i have a fp rn. im not calling kurt bad or bpd bad but it has its bad traits, but it’s about working on them. there’s so much evidence that supports kurt has borderline, and i wish instead of it being called projection y’all just heard me out
