As a leftist, this attitude fucking infuriates me. It’s pointlessly defeatist. Like, why try if this is what you honestly think. Why even fucking try.
You do the best you can in an election and then you torment whoever got elected into getting *something* done. That’s not the only way this has to work but it is one way it has to work.
Get over yourself.
Get over yourself.
Then you primary them with someone more progressive. Then you suck it up and vote for whoever wins the primary. Then you torment them. Then you primary *that* person. Rinse and repeat.
Get. Over. Yourself.
Get. Over. Yourself.
Biden has demonstrated a possibility that he’s willing to work with actual progressives. Am I sure he actually will? No. Am I skeptical about all of this? Bet your ass. We still have to seize that possibility and try to make it work.
So get the fuck over yourself.
So get the fuck over yourself.
It’s like you don’t actually want to drag the party left. It’s like you don’t actually want to do the work. It’s like you only want to complain when you don’t get exactly what you want exactly when you want it.
I think it’s okay to complain, just don’t give the fuck up.
I think it’s okay to complain, just don’t give the fuck up.
I was infuriated when it became clear that Bernie was going to lose. I went through a grieving process. I was so discouraged. I yelled and griped and gave myself space to be angry.
Then I picked up the pieces and committed to the notion that there’s just a lot of work to do.

Either you’re willing to do that work, even if you’re not super optimistic about it, or you’re more into complaining than working. Decide which it is.
Bernie himself understands this. At this point I’m inclined to follow his lead.
All that being said, this is also basically true and we shouldn’t ever forget it. https://twitter.com/gwensnyderphl/status/1296840549618655232?s=21 https://twitter.com/gwensnyderphl/status/1296840549618655232
Still. “Nothing is going to get done in the next four years” is still childish and pointlessly defeatist and infuriating.
This is another thing that’s so important to remember.
It’s been not impossible but still incredibly difficult to pursue genuinely progressive social projects over the last four years because in many cases we’ve been fighting to literally stay alive. https://twitter.com/mbennardo/status/1296843965690458113

Again, if your attitude is “whatever, nothing good is going to happen”, you are signaling something about how well you understand and are committed to real activism and it’s not a flattering thing.
