Starting off with the obvious, what’s the best way to get them in?
1. Use free transfers from the first 3 weeks - at the beginning of the season we see some gems emerge (see Pukki/Barnes/McGinn 19/20) and these are the sort of..
...players you’re going to want to use your transfers on to bring in. However you’re going to have to choose between them or having MUN/MCI cover.
2. Bench 1/2 MUN/MCI players gw1 - reduces amount of FTs being used but means you’ve got a lot of your team value on the bench...

...for the first week so will mean playing multiple budget players resulting in (probably) a slow start.

...attacking stats from last season - I’ve decided I don’t want to jump on Werner for his first game and they also play LIV gw2 so this fits in perfectly with the timing of the early wildcard. If Werner is starting as the main striker he’ll be coming in as 9.5 is a great price.
• TEAM VALUE
Points > team value, I know this. But at the start of a season when every player is priced .0/.5 then just one 0.1 price rise can be huge. Combine this with the fact price changes are more common with more casual players at the start of the season most of who...

...will be making reactionary transfers for a couple weeks before forgetting about their team for the rest of the season. This is another bonus of reaping bandwagon rewards before most get on as you’re team value is only going up whilst more and more players will get priced out.
CONCLUSION
The biggest drawback of early wildcarding is obviously getting stuck with a team you dislike in gw5 with no wildcard to bail you out - my opinion on this is as long as you make a balanced team, spreading the team value around def/mid/fwd and sticking to a...

...formation, then you shouldn’t have many problems you can’t fix with FTs. AVOID changing formations unless absolutely necessary, this uses up so many transfers and if you need to reverse the change - even more.
