The last lyrics of every Katy Perry album and their meaning (a thread)
First off, consider that these tracks were made before the album was released so its meaning was derived from the time it was written (before the album or before the era). (Just in case some gets confused)
One of The Boys
FINGERPRINTS: “I’m leaving my fingerprints in the end”

This last line from Katy’s debut album is her predebut self manifesting that she will leave a mark in the music industry & the world. She believed that she’ll become a successful popstar in the end & she did.
Teenage Dream
NOT LIKE THE MOVIES: “And it’s just the beginning”

This lyrics obviously has a different meaning when we consider the song which is about love/ heartbreak but I’ll make one just based on the line itself. (Just for this).
“It’s just the beginning” is the newcomer Katy Perry saying her career has just begun after the success of her debut album. Some predicted her to be a one hit wonder but it didn’t happen. OOTB was truly just the beginning and the success of Teenage Dream proves that.
PRISM
BY THE GRACE OF GOD: “Wasn’t gonna let love take me out that way”

This one has a deep and sad meaning. As you all know Katy’s ex-husband texted her that he wanted a divorce just before she was about to do a concert in Brazil (Thus, the popular clip from Part of Me Movie).
Katy suffered so much from the heartbreak of her failed marriage that she even contemplated of ending her life. This line is Katy saying that she won’t allow love to do something that it wasn’t designed for. That love should bring out the best of her, and not get the best of her.
WITNESS
Into Me You See: “This is intimacy”

After building a wall because of her past heartbreaks, Katy finally opened herself again and was ready to let people in. This is Katy Perry allowing everyone to witness her.
In her album Witness she showed her real, authentic self; she showed Katheryn. And sadly the general public and even some Katycats didn’t like it. She lost supporters, she lost fans and it affected her so much that she began losing her smile.
SMILE
What Makes A Woman: “There it is Katheryn”

This song has just been released and the last line hits so hard. This is Katy ending her new album SMILE by telling herself that she finally got back what she had lost, her SMILE.
After the heartbreaks from Witness, losing someone she love and losing the validation she gets from her music (which used to save her from the heartbreak of losing that someone), she finally learned to be happy just by herself without depending it on anyone.
If there’s one thing Katy learned the most in Witness era, it is the lesson that one should not depend their worth based on the validation they get from others. Now she’s unbothered by those numbers, those trends and those things that the world likes or dislikes.
Now she’s doing what she likes and that’s putting out music that she likes even when people don’t like it. Now she can be more of an artist rather than that ‘hungry popstar’. That’s why her new album SMILE is very anticipated especially by us Katycats.
This album means so much to her and to us Katycats because this is where she tells her journey to the light. It’s not just album, it’s a story of her love, resilience and hope.
