Under oath, DeJoy a lying twitchy mess right now at this Capitol Hill virtual hearings.
. @SenGaryPeters with a pretty damning chart of @USPS’ drop in delivery service in the last few weeks since sorting machines have been thrown out (which as of now DeJoy said he will not be replacing) #DeJoyMustGo
. @TimCarpenterMKE, “This is a President* that likes to suppress the vote. We heard last night you’re about to make more extreme changes [That will impact the upcoming election].” Carpenter (D-DE) asked DeJoy to confirm that extreme changes will be happening. DeJoy said, “Yes.”
Republicans at this hearing like @SenatorLankford are predictably gaslighting and bold faced lying to the public saying that DeJoy is just trying to “save costs” when he’s clearly dismantling @usps in front of our eyes.
. @SenatorHassan “The @usps is a lifeline for my constituents. Some states are starting to mail out ballots on Sept 4. Do you have a detailed operational plan for how you’ll handle the election?” She requests plan for Sunday.

DeJoy “I don’t think I’ll have a complete plan then.”
. @SenatorHassan to DeJoy “Do you commit to processing at least 95% of the ballots within 2-3 days like The post office did in 2018 midterm elections?”

DeJoy: (under oath) Yes, ma’am.
Senator Maggie Hassan pushes DeJoy On the sorting machines that have been thrown out or disconnected in her state. DeJoy deflects and passes the buck saying he doesn’t know exactly what’s happening in her state that’s a local issue. Again this is under oath.
Senator Maggie Hassan asks for DeJoy’s commitment not to retaliate against postal workers who confide in Congress about issues of concern at @USPS. Under oath DeJoy says he will not retaliate.
Senator Jackie Rosen asks DeJoy to commit to providing any or all transcripts and minutes from any closed, non-public meetings from his board of governors meeting this Sunday.

DeJoy without hesitation says, “No.”
*Jacky (autocorrect!)
“I want to talk about the data that you use to create these policies.” @SenJackyRosen discusses seniors reliance on the post office to keep them safe during the pandemic. “Did you conduct any analysis about how seniors would be impacted?”

DeJoy, does not answer.
Rosen, “80% of veterans prescriptions are fufilled by USPS.” “Did you do any analysis to see how veterans would be impacted?”

DeJoy demurred. No cogent answer. Said he thought his changes would improve service.

Sen. Rosen says, “service have not improved, this is unacceptable.”
Senator @MittRomney , “Mail is essential” to our Democracy.” “If people vote within 7 days of the election, are you are confident that their mail will make it on time for the election?”

DeJoy “I’m highly confident it will.”

No evidence to back this claim up.
Republican taking points are the same at this hear. “Misinformation in the media about USPS” “DeJoy is a target.” “Reforms were needed.” (How is trashing sorting machines a reform that was needed?! I need a House member to ask him this)
“I have gotten over 18,000 call” from my constituents in Arizona about the post office - @SenatorSinema “Can you make sure that mail will move in a timely manner for the election.”

DeJoy, “Yes, by October 1.”

Early voting starts in some states Sept 18.
🚨What? DeJoy just said he’s going to “send a letter out to every American citizen about the changes to the postal office.” So if DeJoy can do that @realdonaldTrump why can’t Vote By Mail states send ballots to all eligible voters with no issue?
