[THREAD] when coming to think of it, i don’t feel we will use a 2 attacking #8’s system next year, and not a pivot either, we simply play it because we don’t have the right profiles. instead, i feel we will use a 4-3-3, but a more compact one, similar to klopp.
reason why i am saying this is due to how we often have so much space in between the lines, and if a midfielder doesn’t do his job, kanté counter presses to win the ball back, and if that doesn’t work out, you see where i am getting at.
if we play 2 attacking #8’s, then the fullbacks will have to move infield to close up the amount of space given, massive example of this is manchester city. however lampard has said in the past how he would love this team to move in a direction similar to klopp.
this allows reece/chilwell to bomb the flanks similarly to trent/robertson, as we saw at the start of the year reece james was very good as being a massive creative outlet for us, feel chilwell is seen to keep the intensity and deliver a cross or too.
this is why i can see us using a more compact midfield shape next year, i expect a ruben revival, kovačić to be even better in a wijnaldium role, why mount has been dropped deeper into midfield, kanté basically has been playing as a pressing #6 to accommodate for lack of profiles
i see him, gilmour etc. playing more of the ‘henderson’ role and rice coming in as the fabinho, if we can become more compact in the middle and close up the spaces between the defenders with new profiles, much better team, much better defensively, and our forward line helps.
people might be asking about kai, i can see him playing as an inside forward, while he eases in puli/hudson-odoi/ziyech/werner/tammy/giroud compared to us barely having as many options this year due to injury is very good work.
