The difference between the Establishment Left (Jones) and the Crank Left (Mendoza) isn't one of ideology, it's one of self-awareness and PR-savvy.
Jones knows exactly how the stuff he says will go down outside of his circle. He knows exactly how far he can go. Mendoza doesn't.

When the Establishment Left senses that one of their own lacks that self-awareness and PR-savvy, they immediately cut all ties with them, and push them out into the wilderness of the Crank Left.

It's not that those cast-outs suddenly changed their views overnight. It's not that they had savoury views yesterday, and then woke up with unsavoury ones today. No: They expressed the same views they had always held - but they did so in Crank Left terms. So off they went.

There are no two people in the world who are ideologically closer to each other than Galloway and Seumas Milne. Yet the Left treats one of them as an embarrassment, and the other one as the great guru of Corbynism.
