The #IDPInvitational is winding down in drafting.
All meaningful picks have been made.
I thought I'd have a quick look at some data.
#FFIDP
Before we start I should be clear - this is one league. Same positional/scoring settings.
8 divisions.
So it's a decent sample size but your league can and will differ
OK.
LBs first.
Here's the top 36 being drafted [on average]
The top 12 names are all fine.
Surprising to me that TJ Watt is in there but fine.
What I hate here is how far ahead of anyone else Darius Leonard was taken.
On average 45 picks above the LB2.
I'm never, ever investing like that for a LB
I also think Roquan Smith and Devin White are going a bit too high.
They're getting a bump for being young and exciting.
But it's a season-long league
I've talked a lot about Fred Warner before. I just don't see anything that makes me think he should be the 5th LB off the board.
I suspect people think "he finished LB9ish as a rookie - he'll only get better!"
Which is just wrong.
Anyone want to make a case for him?
TJ Watt was selected:
110/119/107/92/114/139/130/87
#112 on average
Fair enough if you like him.
But why did he go SO MUCH earlier than:
Chandler Jones #148
Khalil Mack #206
Shaq Barrett #211
Bradley Chubb #229
Von Miller #290
Harold Landry #??
Bizarre to me
LB2 range.
Queen seems high to me.
This is going to be a tough year for rookies. I'm not taking him that early.
There's a lot of players here who might be really good, top 12 LBs this year.
Which seems nice.
But there are also plenty of those lower down.
I prefer to wait but YMMV
LB3 range.
This is where I get excited.
I love Jayon Brown and Matt Milano at these prices. They could easily be top 12 LBs.
Avery W and Kwon too - although they're riskier.
I'll let someone else pick Evans and Simmons. And probably th OLBs too
LB4 range.
Kwiatkoski, AJ Johnson and Trevathan leap out as value to me.
I'm not going anywhere near Kiko [who thinks hes going to be a 3 down player?], DeVondre [2019 number drafting], KJ Wright [why gamble?], Walker [not a full-time player] or Foster [Flags].
Plenty of value down here.
McKinney, Pratt, Whitehead, Jack, Barr, Gay, Bentley, Gerry...
All perfectly decent top 36 options given how late they're available.
I'm fine with Von Miller or Harold Landry here too. Good gambles as your 3rd#4th LB
ADP is weird down here because a lot of these guys were not drafted in multiple divisions.
Za'Darius Smith is LB64.
There's no reason he cannot outscore TJ Watt in 2020.
Most of these are avoids though. Burgess, Young, Vigil, Onwuasor, Hewitt, Burks, Raekwon...
No thanks
Obviously you can see the Browns LB injury effect down here too.
That's going to happen with a slow draft across camp time
