Many wanted COVID-themed plates like COVID, COVID 19, NO COVID and COVIID19.
Some applicants tried to get a little more creative: misspelling the virus (KOVID 19, COVET 19), calling it CORONA V or using roman numerals (COVIDXIX).
All were rejected.

Other references to the pandemic were shut out too: PAND3MIC, THEVIRUS and MOISTLY, presumably referring to Trudeau's press conference misspeak in April.
The province told me it has been rejecting COVID plates because they may be upsetting or offensive.
More now @CBCKW891.

Plates get rejected for many reasons. Some too rude, too confusing, too sexual.
• HABS H8R & OKBOOMER were nixed for human rights discrimination.
• TAXSSUCK & THX CERB called too political.
• IHATE401 was deemed "abusive, obscene language and derogatory slang."

If you dreamed of driving around with the plates DR PP or MY CIALIS, you’re out of luck.
The province says they are too sexual.
Six-year-old me is thrilled I get to say DR PP on the radio eight times this morning.
Hear me say it again now @WindsorMorning.

The most common rejections were plates deemed too difficult to read.
Some wanted plates with a lot of the same letter like COOOOOOP (6 Os) & HAAAAAAA (7 As).
Others wanted numbers to spell words: 5UPERDAD, R4PSIN6, ANX1OU5, RAVNCL4W, W4RT H0G all denied.

There were a load of religious rejections too.
ALTARBOY got the boot. References to heaven, hell, evil, the devil were all rejected.
6IIXGOD and GOD5PLAN weren't allowed either but you know those are just references to Drake.
More on the religious rejections @CBCOntMorning.

Questionable requests get reviewed by a group called the Personalized Licence Plate Review Committee.
They meet once a week to unanimously approve or deny plates or they escalate further. I really wanted to speak to a member, but I too was rejected.
Final stop @OttawaMorning.

If a plate gets rejected, requesters can always ask for reconsideration.
About 60 plates are being reconsidered right now, including one with the name of a porn site, another with the French word for beer and a few COVID plates too.
