CONVERT or REVERT? It has been the new "trend" for born Muslims and converts alike, to use the term "revert" for someone that embraces Islam, coming from another belief system. They use this word to denote that everyone is born a Muslim, and when someone converts.....
she does not convert but reverts i.e. returns to his/ her true religion.
Let me tell you that this started happening the last five years, or so. I personally find it a deeply egoistic, narcissistic and disrespectful term. Islam, as taught by the Prophet (pbuh) and the first...
generation of Muslims, deeply respects and acknowledges other religions (at least the two other Abrahamic religions) and advises on coexistence. As a convert myself, I abhor this term and I believe it should be openly opposed. Not only portraits the Muslims in a very selfish...
frame, but also it belittles the struggle of someone who has shed away beliefs and religious doctrine of a lifetime, to start anew and adopt another belief system. It is NOT an easy process, and a convert does not embrace Islam "naturally".
So, let us be respectful to other religions and to the converts!
