I feel like this is important to talk about:
When I applied to Cambridge, I’ve been going through quite a rough patch and because of a physical injury I couldn’t take exams in January 2017.
My school filed something called an extenauting circumstances form (ecf)

It still feels weird talking about it, but I was very lucky as my school sends quite a few kids to Oxbridge every year, and so they were aware of this option, in case something went terribly wrong for a student.
But I recognise that many students might not know about this (2/?)
Extenauting circumstances provides a space for your school to explain if something really bad happened before your applications that might have affected them.
In my case, I wasn’t able to take half-year exams which resulted in some grades missing, and some being downgraded (3/?)
Although I got an offer in the ned from all 5 unis I have applied to, Cambridge was the only one that has actively engaged with my school to discuss this problem, before deciding whether to move forward with intetviews (4/?)
So please, if you feel like an adverse event might have hindered your application don’t give up just yet, talk to your school, discuss options that are realistic, and only make decisions after :)
