I'm so confused at how some writers think about who is deserving of what scheme, such as @bbcwritersroom. They moan when opportunities get posted for writers who may have an agent or have already written for TV, and yet this shows how much more mental work they must do...
if they ever want to sustain the motivation, grow as a writer and good standing relationships to survive as a writer in this industry. Stop hating and start learning...
In fact, forget writing, start with how to improve on your mental mindset and how the business works - yes, business - and part of that is selling You, even when no one is looking. Writing is an ever progressing learning experience...
No matter how good you are, no matter who rep's you, no matter what is already credited. If you have got that far, it shows that you are willing to grow as a writer and ready for the opportunities that present...
It doesn't mean you are done learning and that you are less deserving. I could literally talk about this all day, but I think you know what I mean...
Those writers need to stop looking at what everyone else appears to have because trust me those writers have struggled, been rejected, kept writing and learning and then were rejected and struggled, and then kept writing and learning…And  it goes on...
I see this time and time again and while I understand they are just desperate to learn and grow themselves, the truth is, you need to put the work in before anyone else will. That's determination and open to growing as a writer no matter what!
God helps those who help themselves or as the saying goes, "... when a student is ready the teacher will appear". So to those writers, ask yourself are you ready? Probably not with that attitude. Find a mentor, not even big names, writers like you and grow together.
Every rejection is a learning experience. Keep good relationships, and don't post shitty stuff, so everyone can remember you for the wrong reasons. Because, no matter how talented you are, it's all about people. Be nice. Be kind. Wish for others what you want for yourself.
And one day, you will be in that room and you will realise there is a reason it took so long to get there and why these schemes are important for those writers who you perceived to be unworthy.
