Focus on building good money habits long term:
- paying your debts on time
- paying extra when you can
- cutting unnecessary expenses
- not making impulsive purchases
- saving generally
- saving with a goal for the things you really need (or even want)

Obtaining Financial Freedom is a process that can take many years and can be a very lonely journey.

Too many people make it seem like this is simply an exciting 2-6 month finding yourself journey.
Build monthly, weekly and daily good money habits.
Build a budget by assessing your spending patterns and have a daily, weekly and monthly check yourself set up.
It can be a lonely journey because most people receive a monthly salary and not tithes like a man of god. Your salary is often the only source of income to achieve your financial goals. Without a windfall of cash you will need to focus on building good money habits (as above).
A few tips to increase cash:
-cutting out dinner dates with friends
-cutting down on take aways
-reducing your favourite coffee from daily to once or twice a week
-cutting down holidays or taking them out completely
-no luxury clothing, perfumes etc
-even DSTV may have to go
All of this can be emotionally draining and lonely and you may find yourself losing hope in reaching your goals. Don’t stop, keep going.
Find other ways of keeping emotionally ‘in check’, including exercise and socializing with people on the same journey as you.
Accept that there will be mishaps and changes along the way.
If you need to buy a house for instance, by all means do so, as long as it makes financial sense at that time and is affordable ie no more expensive than your rental if you are renting.
That nice shirt, buy it, as long as it doesn’t take you off your financial freedom journey or ‘break the bank’.
Be patient with yourself!
Pay attention to what works for you and reinforce that. This is a personal and very intimate journey that is unique only to you.
Use other people only as a guideline.
