Top highlight for me was @Poplak's interjections from behind the camera. FW De Klerk starts saying some bullshit. "No, that's not true," Poplak quickly interjects, facts at the ready. That's how to do fake news era journalism folks! /2
The tragic thing is that the politics of division so well sown by Bell Pottinger in South Africa didn't end with the downfall of the firm, and even today the ANC's main cover for when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar comes from the WMC playbook. /3
But the film's optimism about the power of journalism, civil society and South African people's collective outrage at having a *British* (colonialism alert!) firm come here to manufacture anger about #WhiteMonopolyCapital (hypocrisy alert!) was justified and not over done. /4
Now, JP Landman's article earlier this week about some of the wins and slow gains in the fight against corruption in SA, some of which flew under the radar, is a reminder Ramaphosa isn't Zuma. But there is much work to be done, and we need the catharsis of a Gupta in jail. /5
