New thread for this arvo. Having issues with the sound, so may be a bit in and out. @EQLawyers is up now, the legend that she is. #DisabilityRC
This is hard listening. Natalie is talking about how a disabled person wasn't able to access exercise, was forced into housing they didn't want, and had no human rights, or tenancy rights, or anything. Says we've gone back 15 years in our rights. #DisabilityRC
Disabled people need a distinct and clear path to raise issues with and hear from the national disability health committee. #DisabilityRC
Right, this is the bit I'm giving up my nap for. Time for some real, hard questions to the Quality and Safeguard Commission. #DisabilityRC
I want to know how many providers told the Commission about changes to their support, how many fessed up about withdrawing supports, how many restrictive practices were reported, how much harm to disabled people was reported. #DisabilityRC
Oh god, this is going to be another super frustrating session, isn't it. Disability support providers aren't responsible for healthcare, but we've already heard that health thinks it's providers. #DisabilityRC
Who's in charge of the health of a disabled person with an NDIS plan? Health system (that we know doesn't think we are at risk or have plans for us in COVID). #DisabilityRC
'Guidance is strong'. Sure. Because we know that providers have never breached guidance before the pandemic. #DisabilityRC
This is pretty stark from the Commission, saying that advice to providers had to come from health, when we know that there was no advice coming from health. #DisabilityRC
Chair asks what the Commission does to ensure compliance with the obligations.
A: compliance obligations have continued, there is a complaints function. (In other words, rely on disabled people making complaints, and providers reporting on themselves.) #DisabilityRC

I just want to cry listening to this. #DisabilityRC
You are kidding me. 'For many providers, this form of regulation is new to them'. Why, why, why are providers being given so many excuses by the Commission that is meant to protect disabled people? #DisabilityRC
Q: Does the fact that there have been 76 infections (of disabled people) tells you that something is not working? #DisabilityRC
A: people live in different settings, not always with providers (group homes).
So yet again, no one is taking any bloody responsibility. #DisabilityRC

Eastman is asking asking series of questions about whether the Commission has done any reviews about different aspects of the pandemic. A: not while the pandemic is going on. #DisabilityRC
Commission confirms there are a grand total of THREE investigations going on. THREE. #DisabilityRC
The Commission is being incredibly naive if they think that providers don't need to be investigated just because they say they are doing the right thing. #DisabilityRC
They seem to think that they should only investigate where disabled people live in group homes, or some other kind of congregate care. That disabled people who live in their own homes don't need any investigation about provider issues. Wild. #DisabilityRC
All three investigations are in Victoria and are in residential settings (group homes.) #DisabilityRC
