Ya know, would it be the worst thing if cattle people did reduce our numbers, started more direct marketing to our local communities, using local processors (yes, I know ....
this part is a problem, but a fixable one) and charged more for our product? We’d still be making the same (or more $) but it definitely would reduce our packer problem, make environments happy (we claim to be environmentalists, don’t we?)....
, add value to our product, add connection to our community and maybe open up some land for other incomes? (3/3)
Isn’t beef demand going down anyway? Instead of fighting it with checkoff dollars, which hasn’t been working since demand is down, why not use those dollars to subsidize small processing plants? Let’s ranchers advocate for themselves?
