My dad was Republican until Trump finally broke him from the party. For my mother it was how they treated Obama. For me it's been the progressive racism and brinkmanship that has characterized Republicans my whole adult life.
None of us had to be welcomed into the Democratic party and none of us have felt particularly welcomed. Y'all have extraordinary contempt for us in ways you don't even realize you express.

I'm doing it for myself, because this racist horseshit can't be bought off with white adjacency. I'm doing it for our country's soul and for my kids and for you and yours.
So yeah, I think you should vote. I think you should donate your money and your time too. If you don't like the way that feels, go volunteer to work the polls in a poor municipality near you. There's always more that you, you personally, can do to make our democracy work.
