Today is the start of Muharram. As non-Shia Muslims, I hope we can begin this year be committing to centering Shia Muslim voices in our communities & addressing how many of us actively marginalize Shia Muslims. Our words & (in)action lead to violence. Our siblings deserve better.
Some of us spend more time doing interfaith work than intra-faith work. We'll invite non-Muslims into our spaces while ignoring Shia Muslims. I hope we can use these 10 days to reflect on *who* we include when we say we are fighting for justice and how we are going to do better.
Please make duas and space for our siblings because while they honor/commemorate/reflect on how standing up for justice often comes at a heavy price, they face increased violence from us.
