1/4 My son and his friends are incoming college freshmen. Here are few things I’ve learned. Like profs, students are getting a crazy number of emails. It’s information overload. If you are a prof, I’d suggest highlighting the information you need them to know.
2/4- maybe even color coding information. Blue= class policies, Red = assignments, etc. Something to help them delineate information. #academictwitter
3/4- be patient with your students, don’t drag them on social media before classes have even started. Many are freaked out about starting uni during a pandemic. Getting the sense that their profs are annoyed they have to teach online or figure out hybrid classes isn’t helping.
4/4 - Like you, they are expected to master 3-5 new learning platforms. For different classes, in a few days or weeks. You’ve likely been practicing this summer. (Sorry, me too!) But, let’s just keep all these things in mind. These are wonderful young people. #academicpatience
