I was having a discussion with my brother-in-law today. We were talking about how fucking soft Americans have become, how little inconveniences have become what amounts to insurmountable obstacles.
We were specifically referencing Londoners in World War 2, how they were bombed day in and day out for months, and how resolute they were in their fight against fascism. Wearing masks compared to what they had to endure is laughable.
I mentioned to him a point of interest about the merciless bombing of Dresden as well, a city with little military value for the Allies. It was a cultural center almost exclusively, yet it was destroyed utterly I’m guessing in an effort to obliterate the German will to fight.
Allies dropped bombs to breach the roofs of buildings. It was a primer for subsequent incendiary bombs designed to burn all structures from within. Some of the fires burned so hot, the convection currents would suck people in from the streets and incinerate them.
I guess my whole point here, and I’ve already gone on too long, is that the human suffering others have endured and resolved to rage against makes me embarrassed. If you’d told these people that Americans of the future couldn’t manage to wear a fucking mask to avoid mass...
...casualties in their country, they’d laugh...not in a good way.
