The Chair of the #UMich Board of Regents is Ron Weiser, a #Trump megadonor and (get this) one of the largest landlords in Washtenaw County, including a majority of off-campus student rental housing. He owns McKinley.
So just to be clear: the Chair of the UM Regents has a direct, personal financial interest in students returning to campus. More students = more profit.
AND the Regents control the process for determining and awarding #UMich President Schlissel’s unpublished bonus compensation package — an amount that may put his compensation well into 7 figures.

How did it take me so long to realize this? Why has the media not focused on this?
EDIT: Weiser handed off the chairs up to Denise Illitch last month, but remains on the board until 2025. He was chair when decision to reopen was made.
So I’ve been called a conspiracy theorist for this post. So let’s just clarify: the point I’m intending to make is that Weiser has both: 1) major conflicts of interest and 2) major power in decisionmaking, both via direct policymaking and the power to set compensation of execs
Obviously other regents are involved in each of these powers and he doesn’t have unilateral control; I assumed that went without saying. But I’d like to know whether Weiser using his power to advance his personal interests played any part in the decisions and communications of UM
It’s also worth noting that Weiser is a megadonor to U-M, having given at least $15 million in the last five years. This is yet another conflict of interest for his role as a Regent.
