I have some views on Google and YouTube re their actions over the ACCC draft code. Stick with me here
Firstly, lots of my views overall are covered in last night's episode of Two Blokes Talking Tech - https://player.whooshkaa.com/episode?id=722213
But specifically on YouTube - who sent an email to "creators" today titled "Proposed Regulatory Changes to YouTube in Australia: what you need to know"
Some thoughts.....
Some thoughts.....
In bold: "This would mean you could receive fewer views and earn less."
Bullshit. It's pretty hard to earn views and money anyway unless you are in the top 1% of channels. So this is such a stupid unrelatable thing to try to use to appeal to channel owners.

In Bold "create an uneven playing field when it comes to who makes money on YouTube"
Bullshit. It's already skewed toward that top 1% - so yeah, those poor millionaires might suffer.. Cry me a river

In Bold: "leaving fewer funds to invest in you, our creators, and the programmes to help you develop your audience in Australia and around the globe."
Bullshit. You invest in a few big names or a few high subscriber channels. You do little or nothing to make it even for all

In Bold: "YouTube believes user data protection is paramount and we should not be required to hand this data over."
More Bullshit. You're not being asked to hand over any data.

This whole play from Google and YouTube is dumb, makes them come across as arrogant and I don't hear many people offering sympathy to any of their arguments.
Someone at Google has made a horrible strategy error with this whole public messaging campaign.
