1. I try to avoid Israel/Palestine issues on twitter because one thing I learned from my MA studies is that it is far, far more complex than we can imagine. But I won't forget the day I lost faith in the Israeli govt. It was during operation Cast Lead, and it was BBC Breakfast.
2. While footage of white phosphorous being fired in broad daylight into Gaza was playing in the background, Mark Regev, Netanyahu's PR man, was stood there telling me I wasn't seeing what I could see. I realised then that peace would never happen while Bibi was in power.
3. Ten years - and a full-on, trans-national campaign designed to promote associating criticism with the Netanyahu regime with antisemitism - since, and we are now in a position where the regime can do what it likes with impunity.
4. Netanyahu is a corrupt far right demagogue who should be in jail. He is no different to Putin, Trump, Duerte, Bolsonaro, Orban, et caetera ad nauseam. Calling out his evil regime is NOT antisemitism.
J'accuse.
J'accuse all the evil people who turn a blind eye to evil.
5. But it isn't just Palestine and Israel. It is the Philippines. It is Brazil. It is the US. It is Myanmar. It is Sri Lanka. It is India. It is any number of regimes who are emboldened by the inability of the international community to hold them to account.
Pray for them all.
