So I'm clear: this 19 yr old man extorted a classmate for nude photos, posted them as revenge, bullied a girl into a suicide attempt - and we are supposed to overlook it because he was in middle school? Which was just a few years ago? https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1296225453141786625
I don't believe anyone is irredeemable - esp when they've done things as a child - but how has Coleman made amends for his actions? Was he in counseling? Did he work with his victims for some kind of restorative justice? It doesn't seem so.
People - even those on the left - are *so* quick to forgive young white men for awful transgressions and crimes against women. It's a real problem.
I've seen lots of comments about his age, forgiveness and moving on - but not so many about what his victims think https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/editorials/article244930027.html
And one last thing re: "how long will he have to pay for youthful mistakes" - not getting everything you want isn't a punishment. The idea that we are *hurting* men by not elevating them to power is the same fucking argument we heard with Kavanaugh
Also I wrote about this kind of nonsense not too long ago https://gen.medium.com/why-men-wont-apologize-4e76bcb9faa9
