1/ Thinking about the Nike Kobe collection coming next week: utterly shocked @nike missed a layup opp to unveil a Kobe/Gigi women’s signature shoe for Sabrina or A’ja. It’s been well over a decade since Nike invested in a women’s sig (Dee 07/08 and that didn’t really count)...
2/ Kobe’s legacy would have been the WNBA. Gigi would have been its star. I feel like he absolutely would have “encouraged” his brand partner to commit dollars and his next sig shoe to women athletes, his protégés, his friends #girldad
3/ And if your argument is “women can’t sell shoes” go talk to Harden, Dame, Embiid, CP3, Melo, PG, Kawhi (basically anyone not named Bron, KD, Ky, Kobe) cuz they don’t either. Nike usually doesn’t miss but this was a bad one.
4/ Their whole Equality campaign could have paid off for them right here, right now. To honor Kobe would have been to do this, not reveal new colorways of his Protro and a jersey we already own. Seemed like a no-brainer, all-hearter. No doubt he would have been the one.
