Arsenal are hoping to complete the signing of Gabriel Magalhães for around £22m from Lille by early next week, drawing an end to one of the summer’s longest-running transfer sagas. ( @Independent)
Arsenal & Magalhães’ representatives had initially been apart on negotiations over the player’s expected salary, however, it’s understood an agreement is now on the verge of being sealed. ( @Independent)
Arsenal are ahead in the race to sign Gabriel Magalhães, with an offer of €26m + €4m in bonuses, the same offer as Napoli, but Manchester United have also ‘fallen on’ Gabriel today, however are asking for a few days. Gabriel would like to decide in 48 hours. ( @DiMarzio)
Despite Man United making a late attempt to sign Gabriel Magalhães, it is understood their interest in the player is unlikely to go any further. Manchester United have not made a bid or held discussions with Gabriel himself. ( @SkySports)
Should Arsenal win the race, they will have to make unique arrangements to carry out Gabriel’s medical tests or potentially wait a fortnight between him arriving in England & the finishing touches of the transfer being complete. ( @jamesbenge)
Anyone who travels from France to England is obliged to spend 14 days in self-isolation under government legislation. Football London understands Premier League clubs will have no way of getting around these should they wish to. ( @jamesbenge)
If Arsenal wanted to bring Gabriel to London Colney today, they would have to wait 14 days from his arrival & produce a negative Covid-19 test before travelling to Colney. Similarly if club staff were to travel to France, they would be in quarantine for a fortnight. ( @jamesbenge)
Arsenal want Thomas Partey this summer and he is interested in the move. Atletico Madrid are struggling to meet his demands [new contract] due to covid but have promised they will do in a year’s time. ( @charles_watts)

Mikel Arteta wants to deploy Willian as a No.10. ( @JamesOlley)
Willian: “One of the reasons I wanted a three-year deal was to be part of a plan. When I talked with the manager he told me why he needed me for three years. He first wanted to qualify for the Champions League & win it by the time I left. That’s what I wanted to hear.”
Willian: “I was at Chelsea for seven years & won everything except the Champions League. Hopefully this move will give me the trophy I haven’t got as well as another Premier League title.”
Willian on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: “I joined Arsenal because we can challenge for titles but Pierre will be a big part of the plan. He has to stay, it is very important to me.”
Willian on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: "This is a guy who gets 25-30 goals a season and we have to keep a player like that. He’s one of the best players in our team and somebody I want to be making chances for."
Lille President Gérard Lopez on if he thinks Arsenal overpaid for Nicolas Pepe. "No, Arsenal did one hell of a deal. They got a player that other people wanted & they got a player whom one club were offering more money for"
Lopez: "He’s a young player & a player that functions on people believing in him. Giving him opportunities but also responsibilities. I’m not going to question tactically how he was played for half a season. What I’m going to say is that, in his case, the best is yet to come"
Arsenal have had a €15m bid rejected by Benfica for their Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Appelt Pires. ( @abolapt)
