impressed by the liability shield law passed in tennessee, i decided to look at the rest of their covid policy.
it looks quite good.
this is TN and every state they share a border with so we can get a sense of the neighborhood.
they are right up with the best of the bunch.

compared to the US as a whole, they are much lower at 169 vs 456 deaths per million.
as can be seen here, they exhibited the classic southern seasonality.
this is all CDC data, so it's real day of death, but recent weeks may be/are incomplete.

compared to other southern season states that have gotten a lot of press, they did well and have fewer deaths than any.
interestingly, the state they most resemble is lockdown loving california.
this may be a pop weighted latitude thing, but i'm totally speculating.

but they are not really southern in terms of latitude, so perhaps it was the neighborhood?
nope.
this is TN and every state they adjoin.
they spiked higher than some, but as the chart in the first tweet showed, overall deaths (area under curve) was better than all save NC.

to add some perspective, here they are mapped vs the US and NY.
odd that their governor has not written a book about covid policy and andy cuomo has.
which one looks like the success to you?

and they certainly did not do it by locking down.
TN looks to have hit normal social interaction levels by mid may and stayed there.
my understanding is that governor lee opposed them and the stupid rules but that some of the cities like nashville may have done their own

but all in all, TN looks to have had a low level of lockdown, fairly well reasoned policy, and has gotten very good results.
i suspect their economy will not be as bad as many of the lockdown states. unemployment looks to be high 9's vs 15-16% in the lockdown zones.
