Your Custodian grandfather & Laundress grandmother would be Deacon & Deaconess on Sunday & be held in high esteem. They felt like human beings when society M-Sat told them they were less than. They could ki & cry, release & eat a chicken dinner in the basement afterward (2/4)
They could feed their soul before starting another week of mental, emotional & at times, physical terror. Church & Jesus was their therapy. This is why the bombing of The 16th Street Baptist Church was such a watershed moment. Lines had been crossed. (3/4)
While I don’t indentify as Christian anymore, I will NEVER forget my roots. And while this brand of Christianity I see on these innanet streets is wild af & wrong, I understand why it did & still does attract Black Folks. Now if they could just leave ppl alone...(4/4)
