Btw, it may be funny to think some rando writer didn't know Europe and Latin America had any trade or contact in the 19th century. But then think about all the people who work in publishing who think similar things and have rejected works because they were 'unrealistic.'
That's how we have ended up with a suffering buffet for POC. Oh, your book is not about how immigrants all eat dirty and yell AY DIOS MIO? Then it's not worth a damn.
Now think about all the reviewers who gleefully would star a book 1 star because it has a wealthy Latin American girl in the 19th century because it's too fantastic. Ok, now you get the picture.
Supporting 'diverse books' or whatever you want to call doesn't mean you just retweet something by a POC and then you go on your racist, merry way and you feel you did all the work. Good job! Until you folks move beyond the surface, nothing will change.
