Woke up extremely late and mad today so
1. If you are a parent sitting next to your kid while they take an online class, I love you. Please try not to answer a phone call while your kid is in class, but I love you for being there. Thank you for your support.
2. Class sizes have to be smaller online. Teachers are trying to juggle more and particularly in discussion or skill based classes, there is more time needed to make sure everyone gets a chance to give and receive feedback. Also we have to grade and plan for all of it.
2.5 Planning and documenting online is actually more time consuming than in person. We also need to keep eyes on everyone, which is harder on a screen than in person when we can just look out. The seats are not imaginary, they’re virtual, and that means there may be less seats.
3. Online teaching sucks. It sucks for the students and the teachers. We don’t like planning online, and we feel like we have no relationship with you, and frankly some of us would rather say “let’s all just lay down and listen to this adorable Netflix show” but we can’t.
4. Everything sucks right now. Capitalism is to blame, not your teachers, not you as students. Nobody is doing this to piss you off. Stop shitting on us, please.
