More transparency about application scoring systems in residency programs could significantly impact the application process overall, which could be a win-win for multiple reasons: https://twitter.com/connpharmintern/status/1296508367679164416
1. Students will know if their applications meet the basic requirements for programs right away and won’t apply to programs they will not match at
2. (Above) saves the resident a lot of money! This process is TOO EXPENSIVE already
3. Students who DO meet the basic requirements of a program will be able to gauge what is important to each program. Do they place a large emphasis on research/publications? Community service? Extracurriculars? You’ll see if what you value matches the program.
4. Students earlier on in their programs (P1-P3) can see specifically which experiences are helpful to have on their CVs to be a competitive candidate instead of vague statements encouraging “being involved, work experience, research”
There’s enough pressure on us to go above & beyond to land a residency. I don’t see why programs aren’t already transparent with their applicant pool/scoring. You encourage us all to apply to your program but don’t tell us exactly what you’re looking for? Doesn’t seem fair 🤷🏻‍♀️
