THREAD: Over the past few months, WBEZ reporters surveyed relatives of 50 COVID-19 victims in four Chicago ZIP codes. Their stories illuminate the conditions that led to the pandemicâs starkly disproportionate impact. 
2/ On the North Side, near downtown, the 60611 and 60610 ZIP codes include the affluent Gold Coast and Streeterville, where life expectancy is 90 years, a potent reminder of how segregation in the city fosters gaps in life and death.
3/ More than 80% of the survey respondents in 60649 said they do not trust nearby nursing homes or community hospitals. Some avoided going to the closest community hospital, and one victim took an Uber to a suburban hospital.
4/ About 70% of the survey respondents from 60623 believe their loved ones were either infected at work or became infected after working relatives brought the virus into their multigenerational households.
