The number of people still in denial that this could be our last actual presidential election in the US will never cease to amaze me.
Denial is a very strong self defense mechanism and I don't blame anyone whose brain is employing it, especially while we're already suffering the trauma of the pandemic. It's just very frustrating to see from the perspective of someone who warned against this in 2016.
I really just want to impress upon more people that if we don't act now and turn up in MASSIVE numbers to vote, even if it's for a candidate we despise, we may not get the chance to vote again.
So many of us have been screaming from the rooftops with warnings, but everyone keeps saying "it won't get much worse than this!" until it does, then they say it again and repeat the cycle.
I don't need you to internalize the sense of panic, but I do need you to understand, on some level, the importance of the moment. We need to show up to the polls to vote for Biden in overwhelming numbers or our democracy crumbles. It's that simple.
I don't like Biden/Harris any more than you do (and probably less), but that's why they aren't the ONLY people I'll be voting for. Your votes in Congress and local elections matter now more than ever. If you want to make a progressive statement, that's where it needs to be.
I am not a fan of voting for the lesser of two clearly evil evils, but in this case, I see no choice. One of them wants "everything to go back to normal" and the other wants to become a dictator and has the backing of enough of government to actually do it.
Systemic change doesn't come from the Presidency, it comes from the ground up. Even if you can't stomach voting for Biden, you need to vote in your local, state, and Congressional elections and drag the government to the left from there.
