Here are the new details on the CERB/EI/new programs.

CERB is being extended 4 weeks until Sept 27. After that, the CERB is done and is being replace by EI, Canada Recovery Benefit, Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit and Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit. Let’s start with EI
If you’ve worked 120 insurable hours over the last 52 weeks, you’re able to apply for EI and would get a minimum of $400. If you’ve worked the max number of insurable hours, you’ll get $573.
You can be on EI for a minimum of 26 weeks and a max of 45 weeks, which is based on the number of insurable hours you’ve worked. If you’re on EI, all the old EI rules apply. Need to prove you’re looking for work, file reports every two weeks and can work a bit. #cdnpoli
Those are the key EI details. CERB peaked at 8.61 M applicants but currently, there are 4 M people on CERB, and 3 M are expected to move to EI. The other 1 M are expected to move to the Canada Recovery Benefit. Here are the details for the CRB (are we calling it that…?)
The Canada Recovery Benefit is for self-employed or not EI-eligible who can’t work cause of covid

- $400 a week, up to 26 weeks
- Need to repay $0.50 of every $ earned above an annual net income of $38K
- Need to look for work and can earn income while getting it
The Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit is for folks who are ill or must self-isolate. This gives people $500 per week, for a max of two weeks and you can’t be on this benefit while getting other benefits. This is essentially the 10 days paid sick leave promise.
The third benefit - the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit.

This is for people who miss work to care for a kid under 12 or family member cause school, daycare or other facilities are close cause of covid

- $500 per week, up to 26 weeks
- Same eligibility rules as CERB
So, those are all the benefits. You can apply for them starting in mid-sept on the CRA My Account page, just like CERB. These benefits are taxable and taxes will be deducted from payments
The cost for the three new benefits, the revamped EI eligibility and the one extra month of CERB? $37 billion
