Smash Bros could have been as big as Fortnite if Nintendo actually listened to its players and I think that is unfortunately the biggest L I will ever see in my life.
Major points:
1) Does not support competitive Smash even though it’s literally what people watch online. No one watches casual
2) Horrible online connection that was deemed acceptable
3) Completely out of touch with the fan base. We just want better online not home run contest
4) Outdated values. If Smash was a free game and not $60 and they sold skins and other DLC, it would have been the biggest game on earth. More cash = more power to do things
5) More cash = better online infrastructure = bigger tournaments = more DLC = better everything
6) Many characters are poorly designed and are mentally exhausting to fight. Smash at the highest levels is about suffering through and enough till you find an opening. Not to mention moves killing extremely early for no reason outside of having a novelty of being a “party game”
7) Horrible marketing. Nintendo caters to the casual market base that buy the game and play only at parties instead of die hard loyal fans that have over 2,000+ hours in the game that literally shape Smash’s online presence on Youtube / Twitch / Twitter
