The reason many people do this is not for self-gratification, but to finally hold person accountable for an act that — again, in this case — is quite obvious he has committed over and over again...
Because if we all simply accept an empty apology and assume that person would attempt to better himself/herself, then all those people that were actually hurt by those comments appear to be dismissed and unimportant...
As it pertains to this announcer, his job is most certainly at great risk, and it should have been even if that microphone wasn’t hot, because enough ppl would have still heard it. And as someone who grew up closeted, that word, said in that tone, is exactly why I stayed there...
Now, this is why the hate the term “cancel culture.” It’s because it doesn’t exist. This announcer might deservingly lose his job, but his full recovery remains possible. I’ve seen it happen. Look back at Tim Hardaway, among others. He can become better and re-emerge.
So, please don’t dismiss all of these situations as some trendy movement with a catchy phrase. If you can manage, assess them individually.
This particular offense was absolutely horrible.
