Diversity and inclusion are choices, not just words. Today, @USATODAY and our local newsrooms are publishing a census that shows the number of our journalists who are female, Black, Indigenous and people of color, putting our staffs in context of our communities' demographics.
We are committing to achieve parity with the communities we serve by 2025. It will be hard work, but it is work that must be done.
We will further underscore this commitment to diversity and inclusion by adding 60 new roles to augment our coverage of race, equality and social justice, a combination of reprioritizing beats and adding net new jobs.
“I just don’t believe that we can do this important work to its fullest potential without the benefit of reflecting the communities we serve and the nation at large.” https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2020/08/20/gannett-usa-today-diversity-commitment-journalism/5604473002/
. @nicole_carroll: "By having a team that mirrors the U.S. in gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation, we can better surface, report and tell the full story of our nation." https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/08/20/usa-today-publishes-staff-diversity-data-announces-20-new-jobs/3392038001/
