You know what I reaaaaaally love? People saying that libraries are essential but are NOWHERE to be seen when it comes to libraries' budgets being cut constantly. I LOVE IT. Really love it.
Also, is it just the library buildings? How about the library staff? Are they essential too? Shouldn't they be given job security? Should resources go into their skills development to make sure users get the best service they can?
People only seem to care about the impact of lack of funding and budgetary cuts to libraries when it's too late, when libraries are being closed permanently. Again, the future for libraries in this country does not give me hope. There needs to be action and changes.
Will there be action? Will there be positive changes? Only when the public (not just library users) actually start to show their appreciation by fighting for libraries and not just paying lip service.
And me tweeting about this is probably pointless. People won't pay attention until it's too late. Until it is far too late.
