We’re drowning in conspiracy theories because America is failing as a nation and the myths of exceptionalism and white supremacy mean believers must find explanations beyond failings in leadership and culture.

MAGA, QAnon, Deep State, the New World Order. All one in the same.
We’re in a moment of national decline. It’s happened because of white patriarchal supremacy, unbridled greed and corruption, propaganda replacing facts, and general societal erosion. It’s been a long, disastrous run.

Trump and these conspiracies are angry rejections of reality.
Authoritarians like Trump use conspiracy theories as weapons, as alternate realities where they can shape the story of society to their favor for profit and power, and to prime believers for the violence needed to suppress protest.

We are in incredible danger.
