These days I'm hung up on how *absurd* the level of copy-cattery is in the NHL. The most damning indictment is the PP breakout. We're on year X of everyone dropping the puck and nobody being surprised or having any tactical advantage. You have more players! Try something else!
Everyone says they have to tailor their PP to their unique talent. Yeah? Let me close my eyes and guess your in-zone set-up.
It's a 1-3-1 isn't it.
It's a 1-3-1 isn't it.
FWIW, y'know what I'd like to see? A player w/ puck skating mid-speed at one of the PKers standing near flat-footed on the blueline (isolate by coming up as two w/ a rink-wide pass). Two players flying up from behind said player right as the puck carrier gets to said PKer.
Pick a direction to hand the puck off/chip at the blue to the guys w/ speed. Maybe I can flesh this b/o as an article better, but point is, NO ONE has another idea? (When teams do have an idea it's "if the drop isn't working we'll bring everyone back.")
