I know there are silent people wondering why the responses are so "mean" when a person "just asked a question" so I'm going to break this down as if we haven't made it clear a bazillion times before.
Let's look at this tweet.
First question isn't actually a question. It's implying that an authors work doesn't have historical accuracy and thus doesn't get to be historical fiction. It's snarky. This is where the attitude started, not from an author of color.
Next statement: okay. You're not aware. Google it. It is not the burden of authors of color to educate you.
Happy to be proven wrong? Obviously not, based on your reactions upon being given the very information you challenged her to provide. You were baiting another author and how dare they step up to you.
Finishing up with what you've decided their work is in your mind with a condescending parting statement about "accuracy"
The entire tweet was an insult with layered baiting and challenges. People out there watching this unfold and wondering why we're "so mean" in response? Take a deep look inside yourselves and consider why you're expecting us to be Nice in order to be treated like colleagues.
