I received two very interesting and somewhat similar comments about my criticism of the lies being peddled by the "anime shoutmasters." (1/9)
The first comment referenced Ken Akamatsu's recent tweets about him speaking at the Japanese Diet against foreign values impacting domestic anime and manga. I agree almost 100% with Akamatsu on this particular statement (but definitely not with all his views related to it). (2/9)
I would prefer that foreign tastes have zero influence on the Japanese production of anime & manga. It's important to understand though that Akamatstu wasn't talking about localization and censorship for foreign markets. (3/9)
He was only talking about not letting foreign values censor anime and manga in Japan. I'm sure Akamatsu doesn't like significant changes/censorship in localizations, but that's not at all what he was talking about here. (4/9)
The second comment was about how much [some] anime fans hate the established foreign platforms and are desperate to see Japan get rid of them. (5/9)
That's fine, if you really don't like the platforms, there's nothing wrong with hoping for the day that they are replaced with something more to your liking. (6/9)
The problem is that these charlatans know some fans are desperate for this, so they're peddling lies that these fans want to hear. Always be wary of people telling you what you want to hear. (7/9)
A more amusing comment said that these guys have been anime fans since before it went mainstream. I'm not sure how long these guys have been fans, and I suspect some of them don't even give a rat's ass about anime and just see anime fans as easy marks. (8/9)
But anyway, anime went mainstream in America in the early 90s. It certainly got much bigger starting in the early 2000s, but it was mainstream before that. (9/9)
