I have never, in 44 years of voting, cast a ballot for someone I knew to be pro-abortion. I decided, after seeing Schaeffer's series, "Whatever Happened to the Human Race?" that one who thought killing a baby in its mother's womb was fine would not get my vote.

None has.
However, I am troubled that some may be using abortion as an excuse, a reason to avoid dealing with other issues.

Candidate A is an immoral jerk who treats women as his toys...but ABORTION.
Candidate B plays the borders of racism. Perhaps he doesn't cross the line, but he panders to white supremacists...but ABORTION.
Candidate C is dishonest and corrupt, but ABORTION.
I care about abortion and will never vote for a candidate who supports it. But I question our tendency to make all of political morality about abortion.

Abortion matters. But racism matters too. What does it say about us if we find racism a secondary issue, optional?
What does it say if we, as Christians, hold an absolute line on on abortion but say that misogyny and abuse of women are issues with some wiggle room?
I believe abortion is evil, but it is not the only evil. We should, I believe, take a firm, uncompromising stand against it.

We should take equally uncompromising stands against racism, against abuse and misogyny.
Our clear conviction on abortion does not absolve us from responsibility to take clear moral stands on other issues.

We cannot style ourselves as moral because we oppose abortion while ignoring other great societal ills.
Abortion is not a "get out if jail free" card for all other political and social issues.
