Let's be clear:
Xenophobic blood & soil rhetoric is disgusting and degrading to be exposed to as a migrant. I've felt it, I loathe it. Yet it pales in comparison to the positivity of being told, by a far more people, that by living in Scotland, I'm of equal worth. 1/4

My passionate support for Scottish independence wasn't born out of the hatred that I've been exposed to from British nationalists / Brexiteers, but by the fact that so many Scots told me this was my home, my voice mattered, and that a new Scot is no lesser than a native one. 2/4
Love, empathy, respect and inclusivity - these things made more determined to fight for what I believe to be right. They made me realise the importance of Scottish independence. The hatred of my political adversaries? It doesn't scare me - it motivates me to be better. 3/4
Scottish independence is the progressive cause, seeking to escape the narrow-minded and inward-looking nationalism being pursued by Westminster, whilst improving upon the democratic foundations of Scotland for all her people, to have a fairer country for all who live here. 4/4
