New research, published by @cepr_org and @wef, suggests that countries led by women had an earlier, co-ordinated response than those led by their male counterparts – they went into lockdown earlier and had a more decisive policy stance.

Using data from 194 countries, Prof Uma Kambhampati ( @UoREconomics) and Prof Supriya Garikipati ( @LivUni) found that although female-led countries had similar numbers of cases, they had on average *half* the numbers of deaths.

Even when high-profile approach of some countries like New Zealand were removed, their research showed that female leaders were more successful than their “nearest neighbour” male-led countries, like the UK, Ireland, or Pakistan.
